Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ Pays Homage to the 1998 Amitabh Bachchan-Govinda Starrer of the Same Name
The highly anticipated film, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, finally hit the screens on April 11, generating a lot of buzz. The movie has garnered attention due to its star power, featuring the dynamic duo of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, as well as its intriguing title. As many are aware, the title bears resemblance to the 1998 comedy flick, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda. However, the new Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is not a remake and explores a different genre, while paying a heartfelt tribute to the original film helmed by David Dhawan.
In a pivotal scene during the first half of the movie, Firoz aka Freddy (played by Akshay Kumar) and Rakesh aka Rocky (played by Tiger Shroff) are preparing for a perilous mission. They are in search of a suitable name for their operation and decide to find inspiration by checking which film is currently playing on television. To their surprise, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is being broadcasted on a channel. They instantly realize the aptness of the name and decide to adopt it for their mission.
But that’s not all. In another delightful nod to the original film, a group of characters in the new Bade Miyan Chote Miyan can be seen watching the Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan starrer. The title song and a humorous dialogue from the classic can be spotted on the TV screen, adding a charming touch to the narrative.
The 1998 film featured an ensemble cast including Raveena Tandon, Ramya Krishnan, Anupam Kher, and Paresh Rawal, with a cameo appearance by Madhuri Dixit. It revolves around the story of two best friends who are police officers, and their lives take a chaotic turn when their lookalike criminals create havoc. Despite releasing on Diwali, alongside the blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, the film emerged as a massive success at the box office. Songs like ‘Kisi Disco Mein Jaaye’ and ‘Makhna’ continue to be popular even today.
The new Bade Miyan Chote Miyan also boasts an impressive cast, including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manushi Chhillar, Alaya F, and Sonakshi Sinha. It follows the journey of two patriotic officers who find themselves pitted against a masked antagonist determined to wreak havoc in India. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, both the original and the new film are produced by Vashu Bhagnani’s Pooja Entertainment, promising an exciting cinematic experience for the audience.
