Animal’s OTT Version on Netflix Creates Buzz with Alleged ‘Extended Cut’ Promise, Leading to Speculations among Netizens

Ranbir Kapoor’s film “Animal” has made its debut on OTT platforms, sparking high expectations for an uncut version, complete with the much-anticipated kiss between Bobby Deol and Ranbir, as mentioned by director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. In fact, Vanga had revealed in interviews that the film contained an additional 8 to 9 minutes of footage.

During the interview, the filmmaker expressed regret over not including the additional footage in the theatrical release due to pressure, indicating that it would be utilized for the Netflix version. Naturally, fans were eager for the added drama and anticipated a deeper exploration of Abrar’s story in the uncut version.

However, it appears that the excitement surrounding the extended version was merely a publicity stunt, and audiences are reacting to what they perceive as a deceptive move by Netflix. Viewers who watched the film were dismayed to find nothing new compared to what they had already seen in theaters.

This marks the third instance of Netflix disappointing its audience by promising superior content on OTT platforms compared to theatrical releases of films. Similar assurances were made prior to the release of “Oh My God 2” featuring Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar, as well as for “Jawan.” However, only the censored theatrical versions were made available on OTT platforms.

The online community has expressed disappointment and frustration towards Netflix and Sandeep Reddy Vanga for what they perceive as deceitful conduct. One user commented, “Why isn’t the #Animal movie the extended version on #Netflix? It was supposed to be 2 hrs 29 minutes, but it is only 2 hrs 21 minutes, the same as its theatrical version?” Another user expressed, “Didn’t watch the movie for the uncut version. Seems like that’s not happening.”

Another user inquired, “Where is the extended cut version of Animal on Netflix? It was supposed to have a runtime of 3 hours and 44 minutes, right?” Yet another user questioned the OTT platform’s business model, stating, “I was expecting an extended cut of Animal on Netflix. Disappointed to see the same duration as in theaters. Please release the extended cut; we were eagerly awaiting it; otherwise, what’s the point of renewing Netflix India membership?”

A user directly called out the director, stating, “The Animal extended cut is an absolute SCAM. Sandeep Reddy Vanga fooled us.” Another disappointed user expressed, “I’m kind of disappointed that #Animal #AnimalOnNetflix has been released on Netflix, and it isn’t the extended cut of the film. They really hyped the extended cut, and I wanted to see those extra 20 minutes. Anyways, I’ll still be rewatching for Ranbir Kapoor and my girl Tripti.” Another user lamented, “No Extended version. Netflix has deceived us.”

Some users even shared screenshots highlighting the discrepancies in Netflix’s OTT version. One user highlighted the differences in duration before and after the film began, and commented on X, “Netflix’s Animal Extended Cut is just gimmick and bullshit.”
