Gadar 2 is on track to become one of the biggest, if not the biggest, Hindi films in history. The sequel to the 2001 hit film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha has been a box office juggernaut, and is showing no signs of slowing down. On Independence Day, Gadar 2 collected a whopping ₹55 crore, the highest single-day haul for any film on the holiday. This is also the highest-grossing Independence Day film in Indian cinema history. Gadar 2’s total box office collection in India now stands at ₹229 crore.
The film has been praised by critics and audiences alike for its action, drama, and patriotism. It is also being credited with bringing back the audiences to the theaters after the COVID-19 pandemic. If Gadar 2 continues to perform at this pace, it is likely to surpass the lifetime box office collection of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which is currently the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time. Gadar 2 could also become the first Hindi film to gross ₹1000 crore worldwide. The film’s momentum continued on Independence Day, with a collection of ₹55 crore. This is the highest single-day collection for any film on the holiday. Gadar 2’s total box office collection in India now stands at ₹229 crore. This is the highest five-day collection for any Hindi film in 2023.
The film had an overall occupancy of 88% across the Hindi-speaking belt, which is an extraordinary feat. Gadar 2 is primarily targeted at North Indian audiences, while Rajinikanth’s Jailer does even better business in the South. Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 clashed against OMG 2 on Friday. According to a Box Office India report, the film could have done even better business if it had been a solo release. BOI stated that Gadar 2 faced capacity constraints on Independence Day, with several single-screen theaters unable to meet demand. Even though additional shows have been added, the film is exceeding expectations at the box office.
