Guntur Kaaram Day 1 Box Office Outperforms Lifetime Collections of Mahesh Babu and Trivikram Srinivas’ Previous Films Athadu and Khaleja Combined
In a remarkable turn of events, Mahesh Babu and Trivikram Srinivas’ film, “Guntur Kaaram,” defied all assumptions and negative criticism to open with a staggering 41 crore collection in India. The actor-director duo made an unprecedented record on the very first day itself, surprising everyone in the industry.
Before this action drama, which also features Sreeleela and Ramya Krishnan, Trivikram Srinivas had collaborated with Mahesh Babu twice. Their first collaboration was in the 2005 film “Athadu.” This was followed by “Khaleja” in 2010. After a gap of 14 years, they have reunited for the high-octane action drama, “Guntur Kaaram,” which notched up a collection of 41 crore on its opening day. The film is expected to collect around 13-15 crore on its second day.
Speaking of their previous collaborations, “Athadu” had a lifetime collection of approximately 25 crore at the box office. Starring Prakash Raj and Trisha Krishnan alongside Mahesh Babu, the film was made on a budget of nearly 12 crore. Adjusting for inflation, the film’s present collection would amount to around 125-130 crore.
On the other hand, “Khaleja” was a hit, co-starring Anushka Shetty. Made with a budget of 7-8 crore, the film earned almost 12 crore in India. The opening day collection for “Khaleja” was around 1.5 crore. In comparison, “Guntur Kaaram” has recorded an opening almost 27 times higher than that of Mahesh Babu and Trivikram Srinivas’s last film together.
Combining the lifetime collections of “Athadu” and “Khaleja,” Trivikram and Mahesh Babu had amassed 37 crore. However, their third film together, “Guntur Kaaram,” with its phenomenal 41 crore opening day collection, has already surpassed the combined lifetime collection of their previous collaborations.
Looking at the film’s worldwide box office collection, “Guntur Kaaram” has opened to a massive 94 crore. Although it narrowly missed the 100 crore mark, it has secured the title for the biggest opening for Mahesh Babu (also known as SSMB). Despite facing competition from Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif’s “Merry Christmas” and Teja Sajja’s “Hanuman,” “Guntur Kaaram” has emerged as a triumphant contender at the box office.
