Masaba Gupta is a known face in fashion industry as she happens to be a fashion designer. She was born and brought up in Mumbai to a controversial partner who never got married – Neena Gupta and former WI Batsman Sir Viv Richards. She was born in Mumbai on 1st November 1989 and did her schooling and college from Mumbai itself. She wanted to be a dancer and even had planned to join the dance group of Shiamak Davar. However, with her mother’s resentment, she went to London to join a music and dance school. Yet, she was bored soon and felt homesick in the UK thus returned shortly after she failed to continue the course.Â
She then joined the Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic at SNDT University completing her course in fashion designing. Talking about her career, it started when she was barely 19 in 2007. She participated in the known fashion show – Lakme Fashion Week with the help of fashion designer and author Wendell Rodricks. Her designs in the show were liked and she got good exposure. Since then it was not looking for a young fashion designer. She is known for her ethnic designs and her designs are mostly based on the blend of modern and traditional ones.Â
She collaborated with the brand called Maybelline from New York and was able to avail of this opportunity with great zeal and passion. However, her collaboration did not last long, she returned to India with her own brand. In 2017, she got the chance to work with top brands like Levis and shared her designs gaining a good exposure there. She came out with a hijab saree in 2018 to come out with Indian high fashion. In the year 2019, the streaming giant Netflix announced a TV series with her mom Neena Gupta called Masaba Masaba. The series is all set to release in August 2020.
