Rani Mukerji has confirmed that Mardaani 3 is in the works. The film, which is a sequel to the 2014 hit Mardaani and its 2019 follow-up Mardaani 2, will see Mukerji reprise her role as Inspector Shivani Shivaji Roy. Mukerji made the announcement in an interview with a leading news outlet. She said, “The film is in the ideation stage. Once YRF has a great and concrete story idea, Mardaani 3 will get into the scripting stage. I’m excited to see how Mardaani 3 shapes up! I am crossing my fingers because I would love to play the part of Shivani.”
Mardaani 2 was a critical and commercial success, grossing over ₹200 crores worldwide. The film saw Shivani Roy take on a gang of child traffickers. Mardaani 3 is expected to be a darker and more intense film, as Shivani Roy takes on a new threat to society. Mardaani 3 is currently in the ideation stage. Once the film’s producers have a concrete story idea, they will begin scripting. Mukerji said that she is “crossing her fingers” that the film will go into production soon.
Rani Mukerji recently opened up about her experience of reprising her role as Inspector Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 2. She said that she was initially nervous about taking on the role again, as she had never done a sequel before. “When I did Mardaani 2, I was quite nervous because I had never done a sequel before,” Mukerji said. “I was like, ‘How will it happen?’ Because I leave my characters behind each time a film gets over, and I don’t know if I will be able to reprise that part again.”
However, Mukerji said that she was pleasantly surprised by how much she enjoyed reprising the role of Shivani Roy. “With Mardaani 2, I was surprised that I enjoyed reprising the part,” she said. “So now I have tasted blood. So now I want to reprise it again in 3.” Mukerji’s excitement for Mardaani 3 is shared by many of her fans. The first two films in the series were both critical and commercial successes, and fans are eager to see what Mukerji will do with the character in the third film.
