Search Engine Giant – Google Remembers Zohra Shehgal with a Doodle
Zohra Sehgal has remained the great dancer and actor in her life. She has worked in Bollywood for a longer duration before we lost the actress a few years before. This Tuesday being her anniversary for her 1946 film called Neecha Nagar, the search engine giant – Google was quick to pay a tribute to them. This very day we see the Cannes International Film Festival also releasing the same.
As you check the doodle page at Google, it says that the guest artist Parvati Pillai came up with the illustration about how the celebration has to be made, who remains the country’s first female actor that has got the recognition on the global stage. The film Neecha Nagar also bagged the festival’s highest honor called the Palme d’Or prize – that year. She was born as Sahibzadi Zohra Begum Mumtaz-ullah Khan in Saharanpur during the British colonial rule.
She went to attend a ballet school based in Dresden Germany and later she joined Uday Shankar while touring the world with the troupe. When she returned to India, she took up acting and even joined theatre in 1945. She remained a part of the Indian People’s Theatre Association in 1945. In the early sixties, the lady shifted to London and even appeared in a couple of British TV shows as well. It was in the mid-nineties she headed back to India and continued with theatre. She even regconised for her contribution with awards like Padma Shri, the Kalidas Samman, and the Padma Vibhushan. The actress passed away in 2014 at the age of 102.
