Varun Dhawan reacts to criticism over Bawaal’s Auschwitz dialogue: Where does your sensitivity go while watching Oppenheimer’s Bhagavad Gita scene?

Bawaal, the currently streaming film starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, has courted controversy after a dialogue in the trailer was interpreted as comparing the horrors of Auschwitz and Hitler to a turbulent marriage. In the trailer, Kapoor’s character, Nisha, says, “This is worse than Auschwitz. This is worse than Hitler.” This line has been met with criticism from some netizens, including actress Lisa Ray, who tweeted that it was “disrespectful” to compare the Holocaust to a personal relationship.

Dhawan has defended the dialogue, saying that it is not meant to be taken literally. He has compared it to a scene in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which compares the development of the atomic bomb to the Bhagavad Gita. “The dialogue in Bawaal is about the emotional turmoil that a couple goes through when their relationship is on the rocks,” Dhawan said. “It is not meant to be a comparison of the Holocaust or Hitler. It is simply a way of expressing the intensity of their feelings.”

Nolan’s film, which is based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the scientist who led the Manhattan Project to develop the atomic bomb, has also been criticized for its depiction of the Bhagavad Gita. Some have argued that the film trivializes the Hindu text by comparing it to the development of a weapon of mass destruction. Dhawan’s comparison of the two films is likely to further stoke the controversy surrounding Bawaal. It remains to be seen how audiences will react to the film’s depiction of a troubled marriage.

On the other hand, Nitesh Tiwari, the director of the film said that it is important to be respectful of all cultures and religions. When making films, it is important to be mindful of the potential impact of the content on audiences. However, nothing goes wrong these days while making any film. THere is a problem all the time when it comes to making movies, and dialogues from his film is also one of the classic examples.
