SSR Case: Bombay High Court Slams Republic TV for the Media Trial

The Witch Hunt carried out by the Indian Media has remained a concern for many as far as handling the Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case is concerned. The Bombay High Court in its recent observation slammed the media particularly the Republic TV. We know the said channel has been at the forefront asking the Police to arrest Rhea. However, this Wednesday, we saw the Bombay High Court going harsh on the said channel to their so called investigative journalism in this case.

As per the report of The Wire, a bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta along with the Justice G.S. Kulkarni seemed to be referring the hashtag campaign like #ArrestRhea campaign on Twitter claimed that the media took a very dim view while covering the same. While slamming the court said that if the media houses become an investigator, prosecutor and judge then there is no use of having courts and judges. The court questioned these things to the lawyer Malvika Trived who represented the channel.

The court also asked the lawyer as to why her channel has been broadcasting the photos of SSR’s death body and even went on to speculate that it was not a suicide but a homicide. The judge also pointed out saying as to how any channel can become a judge on anyone and call the death a murder without hearing what the Police or the Court have said about it. The court concluded saying that the Channels should know their boundaries and behave like a media and not courts.
