CBFC Passes ‘Maidaan’ Unedited: Epic Sports Drama Clocks in at 3 Hours and 1 Minute

With just a week remaining for the Eid blockbusters – Maidaan and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan – to hit the screens, the anticipation is sky-high within the industry and the exhibition sphere. True to expectations, the filmmakers initiated the censorship procedure for both movies ahead of time. Bollywood Hungama can confirm that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) awarded a U/A certificate to the Ajay Devgn-fronted Maidaan earlier today.

Pleasantly, the CBFC’s Examining Committee approved the film without necessitating any cuts. This essentially means the filmmakers were not required to eliminate any scenes or dialogues. The CBFC’s sole request was the inclusion of a disclaimer stating “the film is a work of fiction inspired by true events available in the public domain, views of the legendary football players, and research of writers with fictional elements”. Furthermore, the disclaimer clarifies that certain dialogues were used solely for dramatic effect and that the film does not advocate any form of lawlessness.

In addition to this disclaimer, the Maidaan team was asked to include an anti-smoking message in scenes where characters are seen smoking. The film’s end credits were also required to be displayed in Hindi.

Upon making these amendments, the CBFC issued a certificate to the filmmakers today, April 3. The film’s duration, as stated on the certificate, is 181.30 minutes, translating to 3 hours, 1 minute, and 30 seconds.

Maidaan, a period sports drama, is helmed by Amit R Sharma, known for his work in Badhaai Ho (2018). The movie is produced by Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla, Arunava Joy Sengupta, and Zee Studios. It stars Priyamani and Gajraj Rao alongside Ajay Devgn, and tells the tale of Indian football’s golden era from 1952 to 1962. Ajay Devgn portrays Syed Abdul Rahim, a revered Indian football coach. The film’s soundtrack is composed by A R Rahman. Stay tuned to know more about the movie only with us.
