India’s First Female Superhero Film “Naari” Announced by DK Films, Set for 2027 Release
Mumbai: In a powerful move that’s already sending shockwaves across India’s superhero fanbase, DK Films has announced its most ambitious theatrical project yet Naari, the first-ever female-led superhero film from India, slated to release in 2027.
The announcement video dropped on social media this week and is already going viral. In just 30 seconds, it captures the essence of an ancient war between devas and rakshasas, until a mystical warrior rises. “Some called her ghost. Some god. Some a witch. But the devas gave her a name… Naari,” the voiceover echoes as thunder rumbles behind a silhouette holding a divine bident.
The CGI-rich visuals and dark mythological themes have fans dubbing the teaser a “goosebump machine.” The bident-wielding superhero appears briefly but powerfully, dressed in an armor-like war costume, standing tall against celestial chaos. The look, many say, is “India’s Wonder Woman meets Mahadevi.”
A New Era for Bollywood Superhero Films
Naari is not just a film it’s part of a growing shared universe being carefully built by Dushyant Kapoor, the creator of DK Films Superhero Universe (DKSU). Kapoor, known for pioneering original Indian superheroes on YouTube, confirmed in a recent post that he’d love to cast Kriti Sanon in the role. The idea has sparked instant fan casting and trending hashtags like #NaariMovie and #DKSU.
This move marks a significant shift in Bollywood’s superhero landscape, which has so far largely remained male-dominated. If successful, Naari could be a game-changer not just for representation, but for high-concept mytho-superhero storytelling in Indian cinema.
The Rise of DKSU: Ulkaa and Beyond
The buzz around Naari follows hot on the heels of DK Films’ recent teaser release for Ulkaa, a male superhero who draws his power from ancient asteroids. That announcement also made waves among VFX artists and sci-fi fans, earning DK Films a reputation as “India’s indie Marvel in the making.”
Both Ulkaa and Naari are set in the same cinematic universe, which began with cult-hit web series like Suitboy and Boom. Though initially distributed on YouTube, the DKSU is now scaling up to OTTs and theatrical releases, targeting both desi audiences and global superhero fans.
What Producers and Investors Are Saying
Film trade analysts and Bollywood insiders are closely watching DK Films’ growth. With original IP, mythological roots, and modern cinematic flair, DKSU might be the first homegrown universe to rival Hollywood’s dominance in the genre.
If rumors are true, DK Films is in early talks with international distributors and is actively seeking co-production partners to scale these superhero projects globally. “This is the IP Bollywood has been waiting for,” one Mumbai-based producer told us.
